Dr. Huskey's clinical practice focuses on improving function after a disabling illness. She specializes in improving brain recovery after a stroke, traumatic brain injury or brain illness, and attending to patients with medically complex conditions, including major organ transplants and advanced cardiac intervention, such as LVAD placement.

She currently serves as the Stroke Program Medical Director at the Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis, which has achieved the stroke-specific program CARF-accreditation and is designated by the Joint Commission as a Stroke Rehabilitation Center of Excellence.

Research Interests

Dr. Huskey participates in clinical research collaboration with other parts of Washington University, such as the OT and PT programs. I was a member of the Brain Recovery Core (BRC), which is a multidisciplinary, rehabilitation research group dedicated to promoting research into current practices and latest innovations. The BRC hopes to improve rehabilitation outcomes by delineating the most effective, evidence-based therapies.

Background

Dr. Huskey is a board-certified physiatrist in the Division of Neuro Rehabilitation at Washington University Orthopedics. She earned her medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, IL, and then completed a physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.

She is a teaching faculty member in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program, and has served on the Medical Executive Committee of the Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis since 2004, first as Vice President of the Medical Staff, then as President from 2007 to 2017.
