Meet Our Physicians

Regis O'Keefe, MD, PhD, Chair of Orthopedics
Dr. O'Keefe is the Chair and Fred C. Reynolds Professor of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. O'Keefe received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 1985 and completed a surgical internship from Harvard Medical School/New England Deaconess Hospital in 1986. He served as an Instructor/Fellow of Research at the University of Rochester, School of Medicine and Dentistry until 1988, where he then went on to complete an orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center in 1992. He then completed a Fellowship in Orthopaedic Oncology from the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1993. In 2000, he pursued a doctorate degree in biochemistry and biophysics from the University of Rochester, School of Medicine and Dentistry. Prior to arriving at Washington University School of Medicine, Dr. O'Keefe served as the Marjorie Strong Wehle Professor and the Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, NY. Dr. O'Keefe has clinical interests in the management of benign and malignant bone and soft (connective) tissue tumors in both children and adults, bone infections, skeletal reconstruction, curettage of bone tumors, allograft procedures and and primary and revision total hip and total knee arthroplasty.

Ian English, MD, MA
Dr. English cares for adult and pediatric patients with benign and malignant bone, muscle and connective tissue tumors. He has a particular interest in treating rare muscle and bone tumors, working in collaboration with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists and other surgeons to provide comprehensive and coordinated care for his patients. Dr. English also specializes in adult joint reconstruction, performing hip and knee replacements for patients with joint arthritis. Dr. English earned a medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago, IL. He obtained a residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, WI, then completed a fellowship in musculoskeletal oncology at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL.

 Douglas McDonald, MD, MS, Chief of Service
Dr. McDonald is Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine. He is board certified and a nationally recognized orthopaedic surgeon specializing in musculoskeletal oncology and adult reconstructive surgery of the hip and knee. Dr. McDonald received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota in 1982 and Master of Science degree from the University of Minnesota in 1987. He completed his orthopaedic surgery at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in 1987. He completed a Fellowship in orthopaedic oncology at the Mayo Clinic and an additional Fellowship in orthopaedic oncology at the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute in Bologna, Italy. Dr. McDonald’s primary expertise lies in the treatment of benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumors of the extremities in children and adults. His hip and knee reconstructive surgery practice focuses on routine and complex joint replacement surgery.
