Fellow Interaction with Residency Program
There are four house staff assigned to the hand service at any one time: the third year resident, the fourth year resident (the hand resident chief) & two orthopedic hand surgery fellows.
A mentorship model of paired supervision is used. The addition of Dr. Osei in August 2012 will increase both resident & fellow exposure to cases involving microsurgery and soft tissue coverage. This too will increase with the addition of Dr. Lindley Wall in the Spring of 2013.
Residents and Fellows participate in clinics at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Washington University Orthopedics/Chesterfield and Shriners Hospital for Children.
All Call is for BJH & SLCH (same campus)
There is NO coverage of outlying ERs
Intern/resident & the on-call Chief serve as first-responders
Fellow need to go the ER is infrequent, but Fellow presence in the OR is needed for all emergency cases
