Trauma/Fracture Care

With Washington University Orthopedics closely associated with Barnes-Jewish Hospital, a Level I trauma center accredited by the American College of Surgeons, patients needing treatment for orthopedic trauma or fractures have the best in physician expertise and both inpatient and outpatient care. 

Commonly Treated Conditions


Referring Physicians: The trauma service is available 24/7 for transfers via our Doctors Access Line. Referring physicians may call 314-747-3251 to reach our trauma team.


Our physicians are specialty trained to deal with any and all fractures including the treatment and management of patients with multiple fractures.


Upper extremity:

  • Shoulder fractures including the proximal humerus
  • Upper arm fractures including the humeral shaft
  • Elbow fractures including the distal humerus, olecranon, radial head
  • Forearm fractures including the radius and ulna
  • Clavicle fractures

Lower extremity:

  • Hip fractures
  • Femoral shaft fractures
  • Distal femur fractures
  • Knee fractures including the patella and tibial plateau
  • Proximal tibia fractures
  • Tibial shaft fractures
  • Distal tibia fractures
  • Fractures of the ankle
  • Fractures of the foot including the calcaneus, talus and midfoot fractures (LisFranc injuries)

Fractures of the Pelvis and Acetabulum:

  • Hip socket fractures
  • Pubic fractures
