Effective July 1, 2018, Cara Cipriano, MD, will serve as the Director of Medical Student Education and Nathan Olafsen, MD, will serve as the Associate Director.

Dr. Cipriano is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, and specializes in musculoskeletal oncology. She earned her medical degree from Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She completed a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Rush University Medical Center, then completed fellowships in Adult Reconstructive Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University and Orthopaedic Oncology at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Olafsen is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery, and specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation. He earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and followed with a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and fellowship in Sports Medicine both from the University of Washington.

For the last 20 years, Medical Student Education has been under the extraordinary leadership of Martin Boyer, MD, FRC(S). Dr. Boyer has been instrumental in making Washington University a national model for outstanding medical school musculoskeletal education. He has taught more than 2,000 medical students the principles of orthopaedic disease, diagnosis and treatment, and was selected by Washington University medical students as Clinical Teacher of the Year award 13 times throughout his tenure.
