Postoperative Guidelines

  • You will be placed in a splint at the time of surgery. The splint should remain on until your first postoperative visit which will be 8-14 days after surgery and will be on your discharge paperwork.
  • If you have a Penrose drain placed during your surgery, this can be removed 3-5 days after surgery. If you have any questions, please call your physician’s nurse or medical assistant.
  • Your splint and sutures will be removed at your first postoperative visit.
  • Physical Therapy for your elbow, forearm, and wrist range of motion will begin 1-2 weeks after surgery.You will be given an order for therapy either with your discharge instructions or at your first postoperative visit.
  • Follow-up with your surgeon 6 weeks from surgery.
  • Physical Therapy for strengthening will be ordered at 6 weeks if needed.
