This fall, the Jr. Billikens football program welcomes back one of their own. William Hollabaugh, MD, a WashU Medicine Orthopedics sports medicine specialist and proud graduate of St. Louis University High School (SLUH), will serve as the team physician for the 2025 football season.

A St. Louis Native

“I was born and raised in St. Louis and I am proud to be able to call STL my home,” Dr. Hollabaugh shares. With generations of family ties to the city, he has fond memories of local sports, exploring iconic landmarks, and enjoying the region’s distinctive culture. Returning as the Jr. Billikens’ team physician allows him to combine his professional expertise with his deep community roots.

A Passion for Pediatric Sports Medicine

Growing up, Dr. Hollabaugh played multiple sports, with hockey being his favorite through Kirkwood Youth Hockey. Those experiences inspired a career path that blended sports, medicine, and mentorship.

“Sports medicine is unique because it combines primary care medicine with a specialized focus on diagnosis and treatment of sports-related conditions,” he explains. “It also allows me to collaborate closely with athletic trainers, therapists, coaches, and other specialists to keep athletes safe and healthy.”

Supporting the Next Generation of Athletes

As a former Jr. Billiken himself, Dr. Hollabaugh understands the importance of sports in shaping young lives. His own injuries as a hockey player give him unique empathy for athletes eager to return to the field. “Helping patients get healthy and back to the activities they love is one of the most rewarding experiences of my practice,” he says.

This season, the SLUH football team can count on exceptional medical expertise, compassionate care, and the unwavering support of a physician who knows firsthand what it means to wear the Jr. Billiken jersey.
