Meet Diane Barren

Billing & Scheduling Associate

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in South St. Louis City. I am a proud south side girl!

What brought you to WashU Medicine Orthopedics?

I had previously worked for WashU with the Infertility Department prior to staying home with my boys for several years and when they started school I felt I would like to go back into the medical field and with that came the opportunity to join the WashU Medicine Orthopedic Team.

How do you support the department?

I have been with the WashU Medicine Orthopedic Department now for 15 years. My role in the Call Center as a senior staff member is to help with incoming new employee training, take incoming calls and do outgoing calls throughout the day, work any urgent request daily, and assist were I am needed in the Call Center.

What aspect of your work do you find most interesting and rewarding?

Everyday in the Call Center is never dull. We are extremely busy. The rewarding part of everyday is knowing I am here to listen, to help and to get the BEST service and BEST of care each person deserves everyday with our orthopedic specialists.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

I love spending time with my husband Tim of 33 years, my boys, our growing family and and all of our friends. We love to do so many fun things and I am not scared to be adventures but I am cautious now that I am older. Ha Ha! Of course, I am enjoying every minute of being a grandma of our first granddaughter Kacey.

What's the best advice you ever received?

The best thing I have ever learned in life to this day is be myself. My dad passed away when I was 13 years old and my mom raised my three brothers and I. My mom always believed in me and always said, you can do anything in life as long as you believe in yourself and be yourself!

If you weren't in healthcare, what would you like to be doing?

I would some day just like to retire and be that fun and loving grandma and help my kids when help is needed. Traveling would be nice too.
