Meet Angela Concepcion
Nurse Administrator
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Isabela, a province in the northern Philippines. It's known for its beautiful landscapes and agriculture. If you love nature, it's a great place with mountains and rice fields.
What brought you to WashU Medicine Orthopedics?
I moved to St. Louis in 2003 to work as a nurse at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (BJH). In 2013, I got the chance to be a nurse coordinator for the Recon service, and I’m really glad I took it. It's been a great opportunity to grow in my career.
How do you support the department?
As a nurse administrator, I oversee the clinical operations for the Joint Hip & Knee, Shoulder & Elbow, Oncology, and Trauma services. Basically, I make sure everything runs smoothly and support the clinical staff to provide the best patient care.
What aspect of your work do you find most interesting and rewarding?
The most rewarding part of my job is making a positive impact on patients' lives. It's fulfilling to see patients recover and get back to their normal lives. Working with a dedicated and skilled team of providers, nurses, and MAs also makes my job genuinely interesting and gratifying.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
I love spending time with my family and exploring new places and reading whenever I get a chance. Whether it’s a weekend trip or just finding a new spot in St. Louis, I enjoy adventures and making new memories.
What's the best advice you ever received?
The best advice I ever received came from my grandfather, who always told me to be kind. He said kindness goes a long way, and it's something I've carried with me throughout my life.
If you weren't in healthcare, what would you like to be doing?
I always knew I would be a nurse, but if I wasn't in healthcare, I'd probably like to work in education. Teaching and mentoring others have always interested me.
Anything else you'd like to share?
I love spending quality time with my family. We enjoy hiking, cooking, and watching movies together. These activities help me relax and balance my work and personal life.
