Meet Stephanie Hazard
Director of Business Operations
Where are you from?
I grew up in Fenton, MO, but have lived in Imperial, MO for most of my adult life. Imperial, which is about 45 minutes south of St. Louis, is known for the Mastodon State Historic Park. It is also near the historic town of Kimmswick, which is a popular town known for their shops and festivals, such as the Apple Butter Festival and Strawberry Festival, both of which always draw large crowds.
What brought you to WashU Medicine Orthopedics?
I have been with WashU for 15 years and have worked in the Departments of Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and, prior to joining Orthopedics, Emergency Medicine for 7 years. With an extensive background in finances, HR/Payroll, and staff management, I reached a point in my career where I wanted to learn more of the clinical side of WashU Medicine. I believed that the Department of Orthopedics would be an excellence place to achieve that goal.
How do you support the department?
I am the Director of Business Operations, and I lead the Finance and HR/Payroll teams.
What aspect of your work do you find most interesting and rewarding?
The most rewarding aspect of my work is being able to use my institutional knowledge and experience to support the faculty of WashU by providing administrative and financial support.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
Spend time with my family and helping others through ministry work at church.
What's the best advice you ever received?
From my mom: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
If you weren't in healthcare, what would you like to be doing?
Teaching accounting and math classes to high school students.
Anything else you'd like to share?
I have been married to my wonderful husband Rich for 23 years (he doesn’t like to be photographed!). We have two sons: Zachary (22), who is a Journeyman Technician at Elco Chevrolet, and Ethan (16), who is a junior at Lutheran South High School. We also have two Labrador retrievers, Rosie & Sadie. Our family loves traveling to the beach and Walt Disney World.
