Meet Maggie Hennessey

Clinical Nurse Coordinator

Where are you from?

Born and raised in St. Louis! I grew up in Kirkwood and went to SLU for college. I braved the world outside of St. Louis and travel nursed for 3 years, ending up in Chicago, before I moved back in May of 2024.

What brought you to WashU Medicine Orthopedics?

I began my nursing career at Children’s in the PICU. I knew when I moved back to St. Louis, I wanted to work with WashU doctors again. I had worked in pediatric orthopedics when I lived in Chicago so it was a no brainer to work here when coming back.

How do you support the department?

My role as a pediatric clinical nurse specialist, is very fun and has a lot of variety! I work primarily with Dr. Zach Meyer and Dr. Brian Kelly. I support the department by working in clinic, educating patients and parents on disease processes, pre- and post-op education, and sometimes my role is just to help a kid laugh or smile at a visit to make it a little bit less scary.

What aspect of your work do you find most interesting and rewarding?

I am most passionate about two things: Club Foot Infants and Scoliosis. I love them both because I can meet the patients and families at the beginning of their treatment and work with them through years of follow ups, education, potential surgeries.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

I love to go to pilates or yoga, hang out with my family and I love to read and cook as well.

What's the best advice you ever received?

I like the quote, “You can't control the wind, but you can adjust your sails.”

If you weren't in healthcare, what would you like to be doing?

I have done the math, and in the past five years I’ve gone to 33 weddings. Thus, I like to think I could be a good wedding planner!

Anything else you'd like to share?

I teach hot pilates at Tru Fusion, come take a class with me!

I am a self-proclaimed helicopter aunt, I am obsessed with my two nieces, Frankie and Etta.
