Meet Allison Jedlicka
Clinical Nurse Coordinator
Where are you from?
I’m born and raised in St. Louis. I went to Saint Louis University for undergrad and have stayed here since! My siblings have all moved back, and I have 3 nieces and nephews so it's great having family around.
What brought you to WashU Medicine Orthopedics?
I was interested in continuing my career in spine and was eager to work a WashU, which has such a great reputation in education and medicine, both in St. Louis and around the country. I knew that this department could help me grow in my career as a nurse and as a person. I also knew the Clohisy family growing up. I was excited to learn from and work for Dr. Clohisy Jr., who is a great person in and out of work.
How do you support the department?
I am the clinical nurse coordinator for Dr. Clohisy Jr. in adult spine.
What aspect of your work do you find most interesting and rewarding?
While many cases are elective, spine surgery can be very overwhelming. I find it rewarding to provide comfort, knowledge, reliability and guidance to patients and their families during a time that is scary and sometimes life-changing. I also love being in a teaching environment. There are always opportunities to learn and grow from the faculty, residents and other staff.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
I love to spend time with my family and friends, stay active, listen to music (especially Taylor Swift), try new restaurants around town, go to Blues, Cardinals, and St. Louis City games, and travel! Over the past 6 months, I’ve been lucky enough to go to Seattle, Napa Valley and Cabo San Lucas for a variety of fun celebrations.
What's the best advice you ever received?
It’s not how you start it’s how you finish. It shows the importance of completing a task or assignment with your best effort and positive attitude. You can still have a good outcome no matter the difficulties you encounter along the way.
If you weren't in healthcare, what would you like to be doing?
I would love to be an interior designer. I love having a vision and seeing it come to life. It would be fun to be creative while making someone’s personal space imitate their personality and make it feel warm and homely.
Anything else you'd like to share?
Like most healthcare workers, I became a nurse because I wanted to help people. My mom, grandma, and aunt were all nurses, so I wanted to emulate them once I grew up and started my career. When my grandma retired from nursing, she was one of the oldest practicing nurses in Missouri!
