Meet Megan Sabo
Medical Assistant
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri! I have spent my entire life growing up in St. Louis, and most of my family is from here. I graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2023 with a degree in health science.
What brought you to WashU Medicine Orthopedics?
I originally started working in family medicine but came to WashU to work in orthopedics! Many things brought me to Washington University Orthopedics, including the ability to grow and learn from high-level medical professionals and gain more knowledge and skills.
How do you support the department?
I've been working as a Medical Assistant for about three years now. I support the department best by bringing positive energy to work every day.
What aspect of your work do you find most interesting and rewarding?
There is nothing more rewarding than walking into work and seeing everyone smile. As healthcare workers, the high-quality care we provide starts with the providers, staff, nurses, and all other medical professionals, so it is important to spread positivity so that it transforms into patient care. I am lucky to have gained many excellent intra-professional relationships with my coworkers and some fantastic friends here at WashU.
The part of my work that I find the most rewarding is knowing that for each patient who comes into our office or care, I can positively impact their life. Whether I'm assisting in healing a broken bone or brightening someone's day with a smile or a laugh, I take immense pride in knowing that I can contribute positively to their life.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
My time outside work is spent doing many different things, including time with family and friends, traveling, coaching softball, working out, watching Netflix, and listening to Taylor Swift. I am a proud Swiftie!
What's the best advice you ever received?
The best advice I have ever received is to "Trust the process, and the rest will fall into place." This wisdom from my softball-hitting instructor in my childhood has resonated with me profoundly. He taught me that mastering hitting mechanics is essential; the outcome of hitting the ball will naturally follow with the proper technique. This principle has guided me through various challenges in life. It is a powerful reminder that persistence and hard work will ultimately lead to the results we strive for. It is essential never to give up and follow your dreams, even when they seem impossible, so trust the process and keep going!
If you weren't in healthcare, what would you like to be doing?
If I did not work in healthcare, I would be a fashion designer! In high school, I fell in love with sewing and putting all the pieces together to create a piece of clothing. I would love to design clothes to be in a Vogue magazine.
Anything else you'd like to share?
I am very grateful for my job here at WashU, as it has been the most rewarding experience. It has allowed me to grow as a medical professional and a person. WashU is the perfect place to work and the best place to provide patient care.
For the last five years, I have been diligently working towards getting accepted into Physician Assistant school. I am proud to say that I have successfully achieved my goal and will start PA school at Emory University in the fall! I couldn't have imagined working in a different place other than WashU as I work to further my education. I aim to return to WashU and provide patient care as a Physician Assistant in a few years!
