Meet Melissa Silver

Medical Assistant

Where are you from?

I'm a St Louis girl. Born and raised here. I grew up in U-City.

What brought you to WashU Medicine Orthopedics?

I was looking for a new job as I wasn't happy at my old job. I never worked in orthopedics before, let alone pediatrics. But I love the dynamic I have with my coworkers.

How do you support the department?

I'm a registered medical assistant in pediatric orthopedics. I work with Dr. Aaron Huser and Dr. Mark Miller.

What aspect of your work do you find most interesting and rewarding?

I love that I learn something new about orthopedics almost everyday.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

I love baking. My favorite thing to bake is cheesecake.

What's the best advice you ever received?

Don't give up on what you love to do.

If you weren't in healthcare, what would you like to be doing?

An interior designer.

Anything else you'd like to share?

I'm a resin artist. I have an obscene amount of silicone resin molds and I go to craft fairs to sell the stuff I make.

I'm a dog person. I had two pugs that are no longer with me. I now have a four-year-old Pekingese named Poppy.

I'm a colon cancer survivor. Diagnosed in 2015, I had a colon resection and I've been clear ever since then.
