Meet Landyn Thompson

Project and Program Coordinator

Where are you from?

I’m originally from Imperial, MO, and have spent the past five years in Kansas City, where I earned my bachelor's and master's degrees from Rockhurst University, while also playing college basketball.

What brought you to WashU Medicine Orthopedics?

I was drawn to WashU Medicine Orthopedics because of their strong reputation in orthopedic care and research. My background in athletics and time spent in orthopedic clinics fueled my interest. My passion for the field was solidified after tearing my ACL and undergoing two knee surgeries for it.

How do you support the department?

I am the Project/Program Coordinator for the Department of Orthopedics, responsible for handling credentialing within the department.

What aspect of your work do you find most interesting and rewarding?

The most fulfilling aspect of my work is working alongside a team and contributing to the department’s success. Also, I find it rewarding to witness the growth of the Department of Orthopedics, which means more people are receiving the care and support they need.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

I love sports, hiking, fishing, and reading! I also love spending time with my family and my dog, Hank!

What's the best advice you ever received?

The best advice I've been given is to always live with compassion and humility, treating others with kindness and respect as you would want to be treated.

If you weren't in healthcare, what would you like to be doing?

If I weren't in health care, I would be a teacher. My mom was a high school administrator, my dad was a math teacher, and my older sister worked in special education. Growing up in an education-focused family naturally inspired me to pursue a similar path. However, it also made me curious about other fields, leading me to explore healthcare through my role as a medical office receptionist in college and my involvement in athletics. My passion for helping and teaching others remains strong.
