Meet Sara Konieczny

Nurse Supervisor

Where are you from?

I am from Troy, IL.

What brought you to Washington University Orthopedics?

I began my nursing career in the operating room at BJH with the orthopedic trauma team. I loved what I did, but when we had our daughter, I wanted a more family-friendly job and more work/life balance. I loved working with the orthopedic trauma team, so I knew I didn't want to go far. The opportunity for nurse coordinator at WashU Ortho was presented to me, which I couldn't pass up.

How do you support the department?

I am the outpatient orthopedic trauma nurse coordinator, as well as the nurse supervisor for the team. I was promoted to supervisor after only one year in the position.

What aspect of your work do you find most interesting or rewarding?

Orthopedic trauma brings a wide array of patients and injuries. To see our patients overcome these life altering injuries and help them through each step of recovery is extremely rewarding.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and staying active, playing sand volleyball and working out in the gym.

What's the best advice you ever received?

The best piece of advice I've received was from my mom, she always told me to "Never sweat the small stuff." In life we will always face situations which may upset us, but how we react can greatly impact the outcome.

If you weren't in health care, what would you like to be doing?

I honestly do not know what I would do if I wasn't in healthcare. Ever since I was a child, I knew the healthcare field was where I wanted to be. I couldn't imagine anything different.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I am married to my husband, Russell, and we have a beautiful 2-year-old daughter, Emerson.
