Meet Jerica Macon

Lead Orthopedic Technician 

Where are you from? 

I was bored and raised in St. Louis, MO!

What brought you to Washington University Orthopedics? 

 My oldest sister referred me to WashU right out of college in 2016, and the rest is history! I was fortunate enough to be able to work with both of my siblings; Jameka Macon who works on the pre-cert team for Ortho, and Jamie Macon who now works for the Infectious Disease department of WashU.

How do you support the department?

I support the department by being the Lead Orthopedic Technician out at our Progress West location. This includes assisting with all casting/DME application for the providers, and assisting in the day-to-day operations to insure the best patient experience from the WashU Ortho team!

What aspect of your work do you find most interesting or rewarding?

The most rewarding aspect of my job is being able to work with children! They are always so excited to go into the cast, and they make me feel like the coolest person alive!

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

My favorite thing to do outside of work is to catch any of the home sporting team games, or to hang out with my nuggies Mocha and Simba (my doggy niece and nephew)!

What's the best advice you ever received?

The best advice that I ever received is that we create our own happiness. If you think positive thoughts, positive things will soon follow!

If you weren't in health care, what would you like to be doing?

If I wasn’t in healthcare, I would definitely want to be a zoologist, I have always been fascinated with wild animals, and would have loved to study them more!

Anything else you’d like to share? 

I appreciate all of my fellow Ortho Techs, because without their guidance, I wouldn’t be where I am today. Thank you all so much for continuously aiding in my success at WashU Ortho!
