Meet LaToya Nicholson
Manager of Patient Accounts
Where are you from?
I’m from O’Fallon, IL, just outside of Scott Air Force Base.
What brought you to Washington University Orthopedics?
I came to Washington University Orthopedics in 2018. Previously I worked for SSM Health. What has kept me here is the strong passion the department has for people, which is driven by its mission. Not just for our patients but for the staff as well. That’s the biggest part for me.
How do you support the department?
I oversee the PreCertification team in the Revenue Cycle department. We make sure our patients receive authorizations in a timely manner for their services.
What aspect of your work do you find most interesting or rewarding?
Being a part of something bigger than myself. Working in health care is selfless. The drive of my colleagues encourages me to work harder each and every day.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
I love going to church. I also love traveling to just about any beach; there is something very soothing in the ocean's waves. I also enjoy smoking briskets and ribs on my smoker.
What's the best advice you ever received?
Don’t sweat the small stuff!
If you weren't in health care, what would you like to be doing?
If I were not in health care, I would probably open my own Bar-B-Que restaurant.
Anything else you’d like to share?
I live in Florissant, MO, with my husband and our seven children. Two of which are in college, two are in high school, one is in middle school, and two are in elementary school. Yes, very busy house!!
