Meet Doug Easler
Executive Director of Business Affairs
Where are you from?
I’m from a small town about 65 miles southwest from St. Louis called Cuba, MO. I still enjoy spending time there with family and kayaking on the Meramec River.
What brought you to Washington University Orthopedics?
I fell in love with the rich tradition of excellence and the caliber of people that we are blessed to work with. It has pushed me to be better as an employee, leader, and as a person.
How do you support the department?
I support the mission, vision, and values of our department by providing direction on all department business functions such as human resources, planning, finance, accounting, revenue cycle, information systems, and purchasing.
What aspect of your work do you find most interesting or rewarding?
I enjoy the opportunity to be a jack of all trades, master of none. On any given day, the scope of my position allows me to touch clinical operations, revenue cycle, marketing, finance, research, and academics. Luckily for me, I have amazing subject matter experts around me that allow me to support them in meaningful ways.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work? .png)
I love anything to do with being on the water with my family. We fish, kayak, or spend a day on the lake every chance we get. I’m also an amateur musician, and I enjoy live music.
What's the best advice you ever received?
A mentor that changed the direction of my career once told me, “Don’t spend too much time patting yourself on the back or kicking yourself in the rear. The secret to a happy life or a successful career is a short memory.”
If you weren't in health care, what would you like to be doing?
This is probably unrealistic, but I’ve always wanted to be a musician activist in the mold of Bono or Eddie Vedder.
