Meet Rachel Flannery

Financial Accounting Assistant

Where are you from?

Originally Ft. Myers, FL but Belleville, IL currently.

What brought you to Washington University Orthopedics?

The benefits package has always caught my eye but a friend started working here and let me know about a job opening.

How do you support the department?

I do all things business office from reimbursements, paying invoices, to payroll effort adjustments and many things in between.

What aspect of your work do you find most interesting or rewarding?

Growing up as an athlete and growing old and awarded with unavoidable back pain I feel I relate to orthopedics more than any other department. I have a love for behind the scenes looks for things like movies and concerts that has also translated to an interest in behind the scenes for orthopedics. I like learning about some of the research the department is involved in and seeing what it takes to run a department from medicine and supply orders to trips the physicians take. A lot of things I never thought my doctor/office was involved in when I would go into my personal appointments.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

I like adventures with my children and friends, I love watching St. Louis sports live and on TV, and I love to read fiction.

What's the best advice you ever received?

You can’t expect others to react/respond the same way you would.

If you weren’t in health care, what would you like to be doing?

If there is a job where I could read on a beach all day I want it. But in the world of real jobs I think a special effects or movie set make-up artist would be something I would enjoy.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I have two daughters Brynn and Briley, and a dog Steve Rogers aka Cap.
