Meet Jennifer Bondurant

Manager of Administrative Services and Medical Education

Where are you from?

I have lived in the St. Louis metro area for most of my life. My family currently resides in the South County area. There are so many great things to do in STL, but favorites include watching theater at The Rep or Fox Theater, trying new food trucks at 9 Mile Garden, and watching the Cardinals or Blues play.

What brought you to Washington University Orthopedics?

I’ve been with WashU Ortho for four and a half years. My early career was working in graduate admissions at another university, so the opportunity to work in education was a big factor. I started with the spine fellowship but after some time here, had the opportunity to be more involved with the residency program.

What is your role in managing administrative services and medical education; what’s an aspect of your role that others may not expect?

I oversee the administrative and medical education staff and work with my team to ensure they have the tools and resources needed to support the faculty and/or trainees. I have a tremendously talented team whose work is often behind the scenes but extraordinarily valuable to the department and those they support. Their meticulous attention to detail and planning allows faculty and trainees to focus on clinical and research responsibilities. Our secret (or not-so-secret) talent in administration and education is that we are master detectives and problem solvers.

You’re able to connect with both our faculty and trainees. What’s your favorite part about working with this group?

It is exciting to see our trainees’ growth from the first year to their chief year or fellowship. There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes by trainees, faculty, and staff to get them to the finish line. Our department, faculty, and staff will go to remarkable lengths to give trainees the tools they need to be successful. Most people only get to see the results of that hard work but we get to see how that is developed along the way.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

Spending time with family and watching their various activities, traveling and exploring new places, and brunching with friends.

What's the best advice you ever received?

Always look for the best in others.

If you weren’t in health care/education, what would you like to be doing?

I would be a professional musician. My bachelor’s degree is in music. I’ve performed at the Lincoln Center in NYC twice and been on a studio recording. It’s a tough arena to make a living in but if money were no object, it would be a dream to do music full time.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I have a wonderful husband and three awesome sons! My husband and I met doing a production of Into the Woods in college, and my family of 5 did a production of Music Man together in 2019. We hope to do it again altogether someday!
