Meet Symone Swift
Clinical Nurse Coordinator
Where are you from?
I’m from House Springs, MO. It’s a small town about 45 minutes southwest of St. Louis.
What brought you to Washington University Orthopedics?
I worked on the BJH inpatient orthopedic floor and had a strong desire to be involved in the bigger picture of orthopedic patient care rather than just through the hospital stay.
What aspect of your work do you find most interesting or rewarding?
The best part about my job is watching our patients get back to the things they loved before arthritic pain took over. Our surgeons give patients their lives back and we’re lucky enough to get to be a part of that journey. It’s really special!
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
My favorite thing to do outside of work is ballet. It’s a recently rediscovered this hobby in the last year and I’m so happy I started again! I did ballet from age 3-16. Just started again at 28 taking classes at Central Studio in the Central West End.
What's the best advice you ever received?
“Don’t let people abuse your niceness.” – Kimberly Bartosiak, MD. I’m so fortunate to work with a wonderful surgeon who is also a great mentor. And she’s so FUN!
If you weren't in healthcare, what would you like to be doing?
I’d probably be a grade school teacher if I wasn’t a nurse. I never considered teaching when I was growing up, but as an adult I think I would really enjoy it.
Anything else you’d like to share?
My husband, Cody and I have a pup named Rosie. We enjoy traveling and love to hike, so anywhere with a view. Colorado is our favorite spot. We’ve been twice in the last year and visited Sedona, AZ. I feel lucky to have a career that I love and to work with a great group at WashU Ortho!
