Preparing for your hip or knee replacement consultation
Your first appointment is an opportunity to talk with your orthopedic specialist about your symptoms, treatment options and whether joint replacement may be right for you. Preparing ahead of time can help you make the most of your visit.

- When did your pain begin? Do you know what may have caused it?
- How would you rate your pain on a scale of 0-10?
- Has your pain gotten worse recently? Has it become more severe, more frequent or both?
- When does your pain bother you most? Does it get worse with activities such as walking, while resting or at night?
- What medications are you taking for your pain? Bring a list of both prescription and over-the-counter medications you take.
- Do you take any vitamins or dietary supplements? Bring a list of any supplements you take, including those you use for joint pain or arthritis.
- How far can you walk comfortably? Do you need support, such as a cane or walker?

- How physically active are you? Think about your typical daily activities, exercise and other activities that are important to you.
