Tendonitis of the hand, wrist, or elbow is a common cause of pain that can be aching or sharp in nature. The pain is often localized to a single area and can be worsened by pressing over the involved tendon or with use of the affected extremity. A common tendonitis in the finger results in a “trigger finger”. This condition can cause pain at the base of fingers where they meet the hand and cause the finger to catch or get stuck when moving. Most patients report that the pain has begun without obvious trauma although there may have been a recent change in activities.
