Eric Carson, MD, has joined the VA St. Louis Health Care System and will serve as the permanent Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery. 

Dr. Carson has an accomplished background in Orthopedics, having served as an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Chief of Sports Medicine at LSU Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, and then working in a private Orthopaedic Surgery practice in Atlanta, Georgia. 

Prior to joining the VA St. Louis Health Care System, he most recently served as an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he was a team physician for the University of Virginia Cavaliers. 

Dr. Carson also served in the United States Army Reserve Medical Core, and was deployed three separate times during his service.

In his new role, he will work in conjunction with Gary Miller, MD, who has been serving as the Acting Chief of Orthopedics. Dr. Carson will also hold a faculty appointment at Washington University Orthopedics, where he will work with other faculty members to provide exceptional care to St. Louis Veterans.
