Where are you from?
I grew up in Granite City but have resided in Wildwood for the past 20 years. My high school was known for soccer and wrestling. We won many state titles.
What made you choose orthopedics as a specialty?
I have a background in exercise physiology (B.S. Drury, 1995) and worked in the OR at the OC for six years while attending my NP program.
What brought you to WashU Medicine Orthopedics?
My prior experience in OR at the OC. I have a lot a of respect for the surgeons I worked with there and got to see first hand how talented they are. I also previously worked in Peds Ortho and saw how excellent that team is – especially Dr. Luhmann with whom I worked with directly.
What aspect of your practice do you find most interesting or rewarding?
Seeing how patient’s lives change after surgery and getting to know them over time.
Is there a patient who made a lasting impact on you?
More pediatric patients than I can name. Kids are very resilient.
What is the best advice you ever received?
“If you’re going to worry about it, order the test.”
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
Work-out!! I started a regional chapter for an organization called Females in Action. It is a free, ladies only, fitness group.
If you weren't in medicine, what would you like to be doing?
Personal training or starting an adult day program for autism. My husband and I have two adult sons with moderate to severe autism. We have had many challenges over the years as well as blessings.
