Meet Tyler Schneiderheinze

Athletic Trainer 

Where are you from? 

I am originally from Kirksville, Missouri but spent most of my life in Lake Villa, Illinois.

What brought you to WashU Medicine Orthopedics?

I have worked in the area for multiple years in the traditional athletic training setting. I always held WashU in high regard from my time working with WashU providers as an undergraduate student at Lindenwood University, as an athletic trainer at Missouri Baptist university, and with other patients throughout the years. It was always my goal to join this prestigious department, and when the opportunity came my way, I jumped on it. 

How do you support the department? 

I am a clinical athletic trainer for the orthopedic injury clinic, primarily at Cave Springs and Progress West. In this role, I am in charge of the day-to-day operations of these clinics, ensuring that they run smoothly. Usually this entails screening patients to make sure the OIC is the best place for them, rooming patients, placing orders, and assisting the providers as needed.

What aspect of your work do you find most interesting and rewarding? 

In the injury clinic, no two days are the same. I am always learning from our providers with the different patients that we see. Along with this it is very rewarding to help these patients in their time of distress and help to get them on the road to recovery. 

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work? 

In my free time I enjoy training for endurance events (triathlons mainly), hiking, spending time with friends and family, and watching sports.  

What's the best advice you ever received?

A mistake is only a mistake if you don't learn from it. Errors happen and that is a way of life, but they are chances to learn and grow. So you only are truly making a mistake if you don't learn from these errors. 

If you weren't in healthcare, what would you like to be doing?

If I was not in healthcare, I think I would be a farmer or rancher of some sort. The thought of working outside daily and living that life really appeals to me.

Anything else you'd like to share? 

Fun fact about me was that I was a competitive cheerleader for 6 years from high school through college. This is actually how I was introduced to WashU Ortho, through an injury I had while cheering at Lindenwood.
