Meet Rebecca McCormick

Grant Specialist

Where are you from?

Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma. I lived in Norman while attending the University of Oklahoma, and then settled in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Sapulpa is where Route 66 crosses with Route 75, and is known as the "Heart of Historic Route 66," or the “Crossroads of America.”

What brought you to WashU Medicine Orthopedics?

I have worked in research administration for twenty years, and Washington University’s incredible reputation made it a top choice for the next step in my career. I was fortunate enough to land a position in Orthopedics with such a wonderful and supportive team.

How do you support the department?

I work closely with our faculty assisting them in the submission of grant proposals. My position also involves both pre- and post-award activities to help further orthopedic research.

What aspect of your work do you find most interesting and rewarding?

I find it rewarding knowing that I am behind the scenes helping support research that could ultimately help people around the world.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

Outside of work, I love spending time with my husband J.R., my family, and my dogs (Thunder and Maverick) and horses (Cricket and Trixie). We love to trail ride and enjoy peace and nature on the back of a horse. We also enjoy going to the lake to fish and let the dogs swim, cruising around in my 67’ Mustang, and DIY projects around the house.

What's the best advice you ever received?

One of the best pieces of advice I have ever received is, “Be kind to yourself, and never stop learning and growing.”

If you weren't in healthcare, what would you like to be doing?

I would own a dog and horse rescue. Animals are my passion. I can’t imagine a world without them. An animal can understand and teach us more than any human can. There is something very therapeutic about horses, and nothing can compare to the unconditional love of a dog.

Anything else you'd like to share?

I love to draw and paint. I also like gardening. Home grown fruits and vegetables just taste better! I enjoy a good book, a funny rom-com, and cooking for my loved ones.
