Meet Callie Stoutin

Billing and Scheduling Associate

Where are you from?

I’m from a small town called Casey, Illinois. It is the home of 12 World’s Largest Things including the world’s largest windchime and rocking chair. They call it “Big Things in a Small Town.” The first “big thing” was built my senior year of high school, so the downtown area looks completely different than it did when I lived there! I moved to Saint Louis County after graduating college in 2017.

What brought you to Washington University Orthopedics?

I was previously working at a dental office and a patient who was a Washington University employee told me that it was a great place to work and about the amazing benefits. I applied to a few different departments with Wash U, but I’m glad I ended up in Orthopedics!

How do you support the department?

I am on the Pre-Arrival team. We verify insurance eligibility, obtain insurance referrals, confirm we are in-network with patients’ plans, and obtain out of network authorizations when needed.

What aspect of your work do you find most interesting and rewarding?

I find it most rewarding when I am able to help a patient or make them happy. The world of insurance is very confusing and difficult to navigate so I love when I can help make sense of it for a patient and help them get the care that they need covered by their insurance.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

My favorite thing to do is spend time with my wife, friends, family, and my 3 cats!

What is the best advice you have ever received?

“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”

If you weren't in healthcare, what would you like to be doing?

If I wasn’t in healthcare, I would be a dance teacher. I taught dance throughout high school and college and majored in Dance Education in college.
