Meet Colin St. Aubin

Data Coordinator

Where are you from?

I grew up in St. Charles and went to Francis Howell North High School (since I know that’s a natural question for anyone from the STL Metro Area). Being from the area, I grew up on Cardinals baseball and toasted ravioli at every social gathering.

What brought you to Washington University Orthopedics?

After graduating college from Stony Brook University in New York, I wanted to come back to my hometown after a few years of living in a more fast-paced environment. Having graduated with my degree in health informatics and practically growing up at the OC (thanks to many youth sports injuries), it felt a natural fit to come to WashU Ortho to begin my career in health care.

How do you support the department?

I act as a Tier 5 Epic reporting analyst in the department, so my main function is to pull data out of Epic to develop complex reports for multiple different consumers. These reports primarily support our clinical operations team, bringing advanced data to health care decisions.

What aspect of your work do you find most interesting or rewarding?

I think there are a lot of rewarding things about working for Ortho, but the primary being the fact that anything we produce is used to make impactful decisions about improving patient care and access. In my field, seeing the direct impact of your work is often difficult, but Ortho has adopted a new data-centric approach to decision making. This makes the work that our team does crucial to the operations of the department.

What's your favorite thing to do outside of work?

I’m an avid curler. Curling is that peculiar game everyone seems to notice every four years when it’s in the Olympics. It consists of stones, ice, and brooms. I curl out of the St. Louis Curling Club in Creve Coeur. It’s really a fun and inclusive sport that focusses on fostering community.

What's the best advice you've ever received?

Successful people never stop learning.

If you weren't in health care, what would you like to be doing?

I would probably be a writer of some sort. I took a creative writing class in college, and I just loved telling stories through my writing.
