Orthopedic technicians at WashU Ortho are primarily responsible for applying casts, splints and durable medical equipment (DME). Under the guidance of our providers, ortho techs work to ensure that patients receive care that will promote healing for their injury. Other important tasks that the ortho techs are involved in are: suture removal, wound care, instrument sterilization, patient education, ordering DME products and documentation in the patient’s chart.

Providers Appreciate our Ortho Techs

"Our ortho techs are the backbone to our clinic. They always provide excellent care to our patients and are a critical members to the orthopedic team," Lindley Wall, MD MSc, pediatric and adolescent orthopedic chief.

"We are so lucky to have a fantastic group of ortho techs in our department. They are always ready and willing to help our patients with an amazing level of care and attention. We couldn’t do it without them!" Jeremy McCormick, MD, foot and ankle chief.

"Some might ask what ortho technicians do, but honestly, a better question might be what do they not do? They help all of our practices run more efficiently in a very patient-focused, caring way.  From removing and applying casts, fitting braces and simply being there for patients, ortho techs do it all!" Charles Goldfarb, MD, WashU Ortho vice chair.

"Our ortho techs keep our practices running efficiently. They are a tremendous asset to our department and our patients," Mark Halstead, MD, sports medicine expert.
