Meet Tonia Thompson

Senior Research Administrator

Where are you from?

Saint Genevieve, Missouri.

What aspect of your work do you find most interesting or rewarding?

Having the opportunity to help someone every day is by far the most rewarding part of my work.

How do you support Washington University Orthopedics?

In my role as Senior Research Administrator, I am responsible for the oversight of the department’s research program. I also co-manage the Orthopedic Clinical Research Center with Amanda Braun. We divide and conquer, with Amanda focusing on compliance and education while I focus on human resources, finances, and contracts/agreements.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

I love spending time with my family and spoiling my grandsons, Zach and Liam. My husband, Kyle, and I enjoy hiking in the Smokey Mountains...I just wish he would quit picking the hardest trails in the park!

What's the best advice you ever received?

Never settle.

If you weren't in health care, what would you like to be doing?

I would love to own a bakery and bake all day.

Anything else you’d like to share?

My husband Kyle and I have two wonderful daughters, Skylar and Alex. Skylar is an international human rights lawyer, specializing in Iran. Alex is a realtor and president of her Chamber of Commerce. I have two handsome grandsons, Zach and Liam….and of course, my sweet boy Dave.
