Meet April Pikul, CPC

Medical Claims and Coding Coordinator

Where are you from?

Born and raised in St. Louis! I grew up in South City and I love so many of the great things the city has to offer. Find me a good patio with great food and company, and I am a happy gal!

What brought you to Washington University Orthopedics?

I have always wanted to work for the WashU. When I was applying for available positions, I knew this was the department I wanted to work for. I was excited for the opportunity to grow and learn new things!

What aspect of your work do you find most interesting or rewarding?

I love coding! I have been doing this for about 15 years now, and things are always changing. I love that I continue to learn new things and gain new perspectives from my colleagues. I am lucky to be part of a great team!

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

I love to stay active, it helps keep be centered. Also, I’m a mom, so majority of my time is spent with my kids, but I wouldn’t change it for anything! They are only little for so long, so for now I will enjoy the chaos!

What's the best advice you ever received?

You cannot control how others will treat you, only how you react.

If you weren't in health care, what would you like to be doing?

I knew early on I wanted to be part of health care in some aspect, but if I wasn’t in health care, I would love to be doing something with literature. I have always been an avid reader and love the escape you get with a really great book.

Anything else you’d like to share?

When I am not working, I am spending my time with my family. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and we have three beautiful children: an eight-year-old son and two-year-old twin daughters. They all keep us on our toes.
