Meet Kayla Hambleton

Clinical Social Worker

Where are you from?

O'Fallon, IL.

What made you choose social work as a specialty?

I knew when I was in high school that I wanted to help people who were hurting in some kind of way. I spent many years working as a hospice chaplain, but then decided to focus more clinically on providing mental health therapy and got my Masters in Social Work. Everyone has a story and I want to listen and hold space for them to work through their pain as well as celebrate their joys.

What brought you to Washington University Living Well Center?

The strong mind/body connection that can't be separated in people. I was drawn to be part of a clinic that recognizes the role mental health plays in medicine and also seeks to support lifestyle changes to promote healing.

What aspect of your work do you find most interesting or rewarding?

Most interesting: That there is always more to learn.

Most rewarding: The opportunity to support patients when they need it the most.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

Explore new restaurants, spend time with friends and family and get my husband to do DIY projects around the house!

What is the best advice you ever received?

"Do something hard every day that scares you."

If you weren't in health care, what would you like to be doing?

Stay-at-home dog mom. 😉

Anything else you would like to share?

We are animal lovers and have cats and dogs. I vacuum a lot!
