Dr. Goldfarb Discusses Congenital Hand Disorders
Transcript:
Hi, my name is Charles Goldfarb. I'm an Orthopedic Surgeon at Washington University in St. Louis. I see patients at the Orthopedic Center of Chesterfield, St. Louis Children's Hospital and the Shriner's Hospital for Children.
Kids born with hand and upper extremity abnormalities often come to these sites to see me for evaluation and treatment. I really enjoy taking care of children born with hand abnormalities as these patients are very different from other patients I care for. I get to know the families very well. We spend a lot of time talking and understanding what's important to the family and what may be important to the child so it's far from simply identifying a problem and providing a treatment for it. I have to understand each child, each child's and each families' needs. Through that understanding, I can design the best treatment protocol.
These conditions are uncommon and there are not many surgeons who deal with them on a regular basis and so I take pride in working the families to give them the best treatment possible.
