Brilliant researchers, like those of Washington University Orthopedics, will continue to propel our understanding of the orthopedic field. The more we know, the better care we can provide our communities and patients.

Cecilia Pascual-Garrido, MD, PhD, is no exception to the world-renowned research coming from WashU Ortho. She has published more than 100 publications in highly rated journals, several book chapters and served on the editorial boards of several journals and secured several OREF and NIH grants. Her background and expertise is in clinical orthopedic research focusing on hip preservation, epigenetics and osteoarthritis.

Dr. Pascual-Garrido has been awarded the prestigious 2022 Otto Aufranc Scientific Research Award from The Hip Society for her work on "Identification of Key Molecular Players in the Progression of Hip Osteoarthritis through Transcriptomes and Epigenetics." This award is given to scientists that have shown innovative research, encompassing important advances in the management of hip disorders.

Dr. Pascual-Garrido will be presenting her work at the Winter (Open) Meeting of The Hip Society/AAHKS (AAOS) meeting in Chicago, March 2022.

“It is an honor to receive such a prestigious award. This is a testament that the work we do is important. Understanding the molecular mechanism of disease is critical as it will eventually result in treatments that may affect thousands of patients and accelerate their return to function. I am grateful to my research group and collaborators. WashU Orthopedics is a vibrant and stimulating atmosphere that allow us to perform at a high level both clinically and academically,” shared Dr. Pascual-Garrido.
