Richard Gelberman, MD, hand and wrist surgeon, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and former chair of the Department of Othopaedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine, has been recognized as a Pioneer of Hand Surgery by the International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand (IFSSH). The Pioneer of Hand Surgery award is given to individuals who develop, innovate and influence the future of hand surgery, and transform the quality of patient care.
Dr. Gelberman is the author of over 275 manuscripts, and has served in leadership roles for many national and international orthopaedic organizations and societies. Dr. Gelberman was formerly the Director of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Chairman of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons' Council on Education, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the American Foundation for Surgery of the Hand, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. He is also a former President of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Dr. Gelberman received the Pioneer of Hand Surgery award on June 17, 2019, at the IFSSH annual meeting in Berlin. Congratulations to Dr. Gelberman on this well-deserved recognition.
