Matthew Matava, MD, has been named Chief of Sports Medicine Service. Dr. Matava is a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Physical Therapy is the head team physician for the Washington University athletic teams, as well as a team physician for the St. Louis Blues. He is also the president of the National Football League (NFL) Physician Society.

Dr. Matava specializes in sports-related injuries in adults and children, and has special interests in ligament injuries of the knee, including articular cartilage restoration and meniscal transplantation, athletic injuries of the shoulder including instability and rotator cuff issues, and pediatric knee disorders.
