Dr. Montgomery specializes in pediatric and adolescent orthopedic spine surgery. He has special expertise in treating spine curvatures, such as idiopathic, congenital, neuromuscular, early-onset and syndromic scoliosis, birth defects such as spina bifida, vertebral anomalies, spinal fractures, disorders of the cervical spine, skeletal dysplasia, metabolic disorders, spine tumors and disc herniations.

Following his pediatric orthopedic fellowship, Dr. Montgomery travelled to Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand, for a pediatric spine fellowship. He is one of only a few surgeons in the world who has completed a fellowship dedicated to treating complex pediatric spine conditions. 

Dr. Montgomery's goal is to provide compassionate, patient-directed care with shared decision making and open communication. His priority as a pediatric spine surgeon is to listen and provide up-to-date, evidence based, personalized medical advice, and he strives to help children and adolescent patients attain a balanced, functional spine that will serve them well for the rest of their lives.

Dr. Montgomery's research interests include adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, kyphosis, early-onset scoliosis, neuromuscular scoliosis, syndromic scoliosis, achondroplasia, spina bifida, vertebral anomalies, spine fractures, spondylolysis, spondylolisthesis, disorders of the cervical spine, torticollis, skeletal dysplasia, metabolic disorders, neurofibromatosis and spine tumors.

Background

Dr. Montgomery earned a medical degree at the University of Missouri, Kansas City School of Medicine in Kansas City, MO, and then completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Stanford University, in Palo Alto, CA. He then completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopaedics from Boston Children's Hospital/Harvard Medical School, in Boston, MA. Additionally, he completed a pediatric spine fellowship from Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. Dr. Montgomery is one of only a few of surgeons in the world who has completed a year-long fellowship dedicated to complex pediatric spine conditions.
