Many children in the eastern Caribbean lack access to pediatric specialists to treat their complex orthopedic conditions. Pediatric orthopedic surgeon Dr. J. Eric Gordon and pediatric orthopedic nurse manager Kim Cordia recently traveled to St. Vincent to join a team of orthopedic specialists for the World Pediatric Project’s annual orthopedic surgery mission trip.

Patients traveled from nearby islands, and over 110 patients were evaluated and 29 surgeries took place. Several children were identified for treatment in the United States for more complex conditions, and some will be surgically treated during the next mission trip in 2017.
