Fractures and Dislocations of the Wrist, Hand, Distal Radius, and Distal Ulna
Fractures and dislocations of the hand and wrist are injuries that require prompt evaluation and treatment to minimize long-term complications such as persistent pain, loss of mobility, and loss of strength. These injuries follow traumatic events and are often evaluated in an emergent setting. Typically, emergency room treatment consists of immobilizing the injured area and may include reduction of the fracture or dislocation. When injuries are not seen in the emergency room, it is reasonable to contact an orthopedic hand surgeon for an evaluation in the office the day following the injury.
