Orthopedic Minute - Bow Legs and Knock Knees

Time for another Orthopedic Minute presented by Washington University Physicians.
I'm Dr. Gordon. I'm with Washington University. I'm an Orthopedic Surgeon and I see patients at St. Louis Children's Hospital. When we see patients there, we often see children whose parents are concerned whether or not their legs are straight. That's a big concern especially as children are growing and for the most part, children will grow out of these problems. However, sometimes, they won't.
When we see children with these sorts of problems, we sometimes see children for bowing where the leg in the knee is outward and we see, sometimes, children who have knock knees when the knee is inward. When we see children for these sorts of problems, it's usually part of the developmental spectrum.
If you're concerned about your child's alignment, we can be seen at St. Louis Children's Hospital and one of our nurse practitioners or one of the surgeons can evaluate you and decide whether or not some sort of treatment is necessary.
