Sports medicine injuries in patients of all ages, including knee ligament, meniscus and articular cartilage injuries, shoulder disorders, and injury prevention and treatment in soccer players.

Background

Dr. Brophy earned undergraduate degrees in Economics and Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, where he played on the men’s soccer team, earning All Conference Honors during his senior season. He completed a master’s degree in Industrial Engineering at Stanford University and played for two national championship teams in the United Soccer League (1992 and 1996) before enrolling in medical school at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He received numerous academic awards during medical school, including Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society recognition, before entering orthopedic surgery residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY. He stayed at the Hospital for Special Surgery for a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery, learning about team coverage as an assistant with the New York Giants (NFL) and New York Red Bulls (MLS). Upon graduation, he returned to the Washington University School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor in Sports Medicine. He has been an assistant team physician with the St. Louis Blues (NHL) and is an assistant team physician with the St. Louis Rams (NFL) and head team physician for the St. Louis Athletica (WPS). In 2008, he was a traveling fellow for the International Cartilage Research Society (ICRS), learning from leading articular cartilage surgeons in various centers throughout Europe. In 2009, he was named an AAOS/AOA North American Traveling Fellow and will visit leading academic orthopedic surgery centers in the United States and Canada. Dr. Brophy has an interest in a wide range of sports injuries and surgeries, particularly of the knee and shoulder. Special research and clinical interests include anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, arthroscopic shoulder stabilization and rotator cuff repair, injury treatment and prevention in soccer players and surgical treatment of knee meniscal and articular cartilage injuries.
