Clinical Interests

Dr. Metzler's clinical practice consists of evaluation and management of all musculoskeletal disorders. Special interests include sport related injuries to the shoulder, foot, and ankle.

Research Interests

The role of epidural injections in the management of lumbar disc disease; Rotator cuff tear. The effects of cortisone on patients who receive cortisone injections.

Background

Dr. Metzler received his undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch. He is currently an Assistant Professor for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the Department of Orthopedics at Washington University Medical School. He is a member of several national societies including the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He is the Co-founder and Director of the Musculoskeletal Sports Medicine Fellowship in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the university and involved in medical student and resident education. Dr. Metzler has authored peer-reviewed articles, review articles, and book chapters on topics related to the musculoskeletal rehabilitation. His clinical interests include the conservative management of all musculoskeletal conditions with a special interest in foot, ankle and sports medicine. Dr. Metzler is trained in the diagnosis and conservative treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries of the spine and extremities.
