Background
Dr. Barrack, an internationally and nationally recognized hip and knee specialist and orthopaedic surgeon, earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University and completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Tulane University Affiliated Hospitals. After further training in total joint replacement, he served as a Commander in the U.S. Navy and staff physician at the Oakland Naval Hospital. After leaving the military, Dr. Barrack completed a fellowship in hip and implant surgery at Harvard Medical School/ Massachusetts General Hospital. He then joined the faculty of Tulane University, where he served for over 13 years.
Dr. Barrack is the recipient of numerous awards including the Russell S. Hibbs Award from the Scoliosis Research Society, the Award for Excellence in Sports Medicine Research from the AOSSM (Sports Medicine Society), the Rand Award from the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the Ranawat Award and the Coventry Award by the Knee Society, and the Aufranc Award and Charnley Award by the Hip Society.
He has participated in the European Traveling Fellowship sponsored by the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports medicine as well as the prestigious American-British-Canadian (ABC) Traveling Fellowship sponsored by the American Orthopaedic Association. He has written over 200 manuscripts and book chapters.
