The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery has an active research program. Fellow participation in clinical and basic science research projects is encouraged.

A listing of faculty research interests includes:reconstruction

Dr. Gelberman:  the investigation of the effects of early postoperative motion on the healing (both biological and biomechanical) of repaired flexor tendons

Dr. Manske:  flexor tendon biology and biomechanics

Dr. Boyer:  the biology of vascular endothelial growth factor and its role in promoting tendon neoangiogenesis and in the microvascular transplantation of epiphyseal plate allografts

Dr. Calfee:  wrist kinematics and clinical outcomes of upper extremity reconstruction.

Dr. Goldfarb:  reconstruction for degenerative and rheumatoid conditions, of congenital deformities and nerve compression syndromes of the upper extremity

Dr. Yamaguchi:  the natural history of rotator cuff tears as well as the biology of the bone tendon interface

Dr. Galatz:  muscle degeneration, rotator cuff disease and disorders and bone to tendon healing
